Q1. What is Postscribed IDTM ?
A1. Postscribed IDTM is a new technology from Sony in which unique data, such as identification codes and serial numbers, are inscribed onto a Disc after it has been manufactured. For further detail, refer to our About Postscribed IDTM page.
 
Q2. Can Postscribed IDTM data be inscribed on any disc format?
A2. Currently, it can only be added to CD-ROM discs and DVD (DVD-5) Discs.
 
Q3. How is Postscribed IDTM data inscribed on the CD/DVD-ROM? Is it possible for me or an end user to add the data afterward?
A3. Using a high-power laser diode and extremely accurate location control technology, the disc manufacturing plant adds the data after the disc has been stamped. End-users cannot add Postscribed IDTM data themselves.
 
Q4. Is it possible to inscribe the Postscribed IDTM information on any CD/DVD-ROM sold in the market?
A4. No. The data can only be inscribed on CD-ROMs that are made specifically for that purpose.
 
Q5. How is the Postscribed IDTM information read?
A5. By using dedicated reading software that is incorporated into the discs.
 
Q6. Will end-users be able to find and view the Postscribed IDTM information using Windows Explorer?
A6. No. The information is hidden and cannot be viewed by the end user.
 
Q7. Does the Postscribed IDTM reading software support all operating systems?
A7. Currently, the service supports Windows Vista, XP and 2000 for Windows, OSX (10.2 and higher) for Macintosh. Linux is not supported, but could be added to meet future demand.

Q1. How is Postscribed IDTM written to disc?
A1. It is done at the sub-micron level using a high-power laser diode, new reflective layer material, and extremely accurate location control technology.
 
Q2. If an end user makes a clone copy of a disc that contains Postscribed IDTM information, will the ID information be copied as well?
A2. Yes. Because Postscribed IDTM is compliance with the CD/DVD format.
 
Q3. Does the process of adding Postscribed IDTM data effect the customer's software applications?
A3. No, Postscribed IDTM data is scribed at the outer area from customer's data
 
Q4. How is Postscribed IDTM different from other technologies that add ID information to CD-ROMs?
A4. Our technology is inscribed during mass production and the information can be read by most CD/DVD-ROM drives on the market.

Q1. How much will it cost to add Postscribed IDTM information to my CD-ROMs?
A1. The cost will depend on the size of your order and the type of Postscribed IDTM services you require. For more information, contact your regional Sony Disc Manufacturing sales representative.
 
Q2. What does Sony Disc Manufacturing need to process my Postscribed IDTM order?
A2. You should provide a master disc and your custom ID data that will be inscribed as Postscribed IDTM information.
 
Q3. What kind of media should I use for a cutting master disc?
A3. The media should be a CD-R for Postscribed IDTM-CD. For Postscribed IDTM-DVD, Cutting Master for Postscribed IDTM shold be created at factory. Therefore, the customer should send the Master Tape (DLT Tape or DVD-R) with PID Information Sheet File (dpi file) and Postscribed IDTM Data to the factory. PID Information Sheet File (dpi file) can be created by PID Creator. For more information, please contact your local sales representative.

Q5. Do you charge a licensing fee for Postscribed IDTM service?
